Welcome to The Doberman Way

Welcome to The Doberman WayWelcome to The Doberman WayWelcome to The Doberman Way

As a Doberman owner (or prospective owner) you know that this Breed is unique! Words like "Energetic, Watchful, Determined, Alert, Fearless, Loyal and Obedient" only begin to scratch the surface of this multi-faceted Breed. Whether this is your first, or your tenth Doberman, through The Doberman Way's YouTube channel, you will learn tips and tricks and what makes Dobermans tick. Join me as we look at the serious, the fun and everything in-between.

Let Me Introduce Myself...

I'm Elizabeth Barrett, and I am the host of the YouTube channel, The Doberman Way.  My life quite literally, went to the dogs when I obtained my first Doberman over 30 years ago. Since then, I was a kennel manager and assistant trainer for a boarding school for puppies for 13 years. I then graduated with honors as a Registered Veterinary Technician and became a practitioner of Canine Physical Rehabilitation through the University of Tennessee Veterinary School of Medicine program. I practiced rehab for over ten years; helping dogs learn to walk again following spinal trauma, recover from surgically repaired "ACL" tears, and strengthened older, arthritic dogs so they could have additional years of quality life.

While all the above was going on, I was doing two important things in the background that were near and dear to my heart- establishing my own line of Dobermans and honing my skills as a dog show handler.

I have bred 40 AKC Champions, 20 Register of Merits, dozens of Obedience and Agility titled, Service and Therapy Dobermans. Among these are thirteen Doberman Pinscher Club of America (DPCA) Top 20 Agility Finalists and a four-time DPCA Top 20 Obedience Finalist. That very special last dog was the FIRST and ONLY Quintuple AKC Champion Doberman in the history of the Breed.

Over the years I have enjoyed training and handling dozens of dogs from multiple breeds to their AKC Championships. I am one of about 70 AKC Registered Handlers in the USA, as well as a member of the Professional Handlers Association. Both organizations hold their members to high standards of care both at home and on the road, fair business practices, and good sportsmanship.

I've enjoyed giving back to the dog community for the past three decades. I served in multiple roles for many years for the Sawnee Mountain Kennel Club and Atlanta Doberman Pinscher Club before moving on to serve the DPCA in various forms. I have been actively involved with Doberman magazine publications for numerous years as an editor, ad rep and author. I have been published in The Doberman Quarterly, The Doberman Pinscher Magazine, The Doberman Digest (all of which are no longer active) and most recently in The Doberman Network. I was also a contributing writer in the book, Another Piece of the Puzzle; Puppy Development, and have presented and co-authored presentations for Veterinary and Veterinary Technician conferences.

I am now taking all of my experience with Dobermans, and paying it forward with fellow Breed lovers!
